Happy New Year Post!!!
Happy new year! I almost forgot to make a post to start the year with.
I've been enjoying the last days of my "pseudo-vacation", as in, I'm still working but 3 hours a day max only doing QA just so I'll get some money guaranteed for February. It's a boring-er job than what I'm used to, but someone's gotta do it and at least it doesn't take much of my time.
Doing this post now cause I realized October and December had 4 posts each (in November… things happened). That was 100% coincidental, but it happens to match 1 post a week, which is such a good number I decided I'll keep with that schedule going forward. It's the plan at least, and I don't promise following it perfectly.
For things I've been doing, writing's the big one of course. What I'm currently writing isn't particularly long, but it's taking me more time than expected, because writing takes a while and I'm keeping my stance of no pressure to finish anything. I don't regret that policy but it ends up resulting in me skipping a few days sometimes. Still, I'm trying not to care that much. Anyway, the first draft of this first short story should be done by February. I'm hoping next week cause there's not much left to put to paper, but who knows how things will turn out? Then it will depend on how much time I'll put into revision and rewrites and all that. Updates here whenever something happens, even though I'm writing it in Portuguese for now.
I said on the last post I'd talk about videogames this year. I finished Natsu-Mon, finally, last week, and I've been going slowly with Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance. It's a fine game to play but after playing a lot of SMT these past two years this one feels particularly stale, so I'm not exactly in a rush to play that much. I mean, don't get me wrong, it looks gorgeous, the battles are super fun to do, and running around the desert as Nahobino's longe ass hair goes WHOOSH never gets old; BUT it all feels like things I've seen before elsewhere and the story isn't particularly gripping so far (I say this as someone who doesn't play these games for story necessarily). This is a bigger letdown than I'd hope from a series that used to try new things sometimes. I mean, I'm coming from Persona 1 and 2, which are severely, let's say, janky, but were at least trying something new within the franchise, and both have so much heart and charm I couldn't help but fall in love with them; as well as Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers, which is the more traditional dungeon crawler formula but definitely felt like its own thing compared to the other games I played. Sure, those were spin-offs, but I guess that's the point, I'm missing some variety and I guess I hoped SMTVV would deliver a little more on that front. Yeah, I've been thinking a lot about this lol Moving on.
The big new thing I'm trying now is that I've started reading Early Irish Myths and Legends, which has been an absolute blast. I've been interested in learning more about Irish mythology, and this is a great, accessible resource to begin. As far as I've read, these stories are super fun and imaginative and really, really weird in ways that amuse me a lot. Easy to see why they're still so widely referenced in pop culture, this is really fun stuff. It's my first read this year, and before that I'd forced myself to finish another short story collection I'd started months ago, Women by Osamu Dazai. I'm not sure if this came out in English or not, but it's a collection of stories he wrote from the point of view of female characters. I don't know, I liked it, they were fun and often very depressing, but at the end of the day some short stories just don't tend to stick with me that much, I don't know why.
That's the, uuuh, I guess weekly update? See you next week, hopefully!
