I kinda forgot about blogging this month
The problem with blogs is that I really need to be in the mood for long posting, and I haven't really been for the whole month.
I mean, you have to sit down and write a lot of words, and I usually don't feel like doing that. But I know the big issue is just starting, because, once I do, it flows pretty well. Still, I'm not forcing myself to do the weekly check-in because at the end of the day my life is pretty uneventful.
Big highlight this month is I got into Irish Mythology and started watching Saint Seiya. It's really funny doing both at the same time, cause it highlights the fact that both are about pretty warriors doing insane superhuman feats constantly (not that many similarities otherwise, I don't think). The narrator or one of the characters will just casually say something completely absurd, and it's awesome. "Cú Chulainn was drunk and he just lifted up this entire wall by himself." Sure. "Seiya can punch more than 85 times per second." Why not? I love it. Early Irish Myths and Sagas was such a blast to read, I recommend it to everybody.
And in general it's just cool to be getting into books again, after years reading just occasionally. After months I'm finally going to finish Grande Sertão: Veredas, which is a wonderful, wonderful novel, and then I plan on reading some Machado de Assis, another one of the big Brazilian writers that I've read less than I'd hope for. The downside, if you can even call it that, is that I'm exchanging the time I used to read comics to read books, so I still haven't found the right balance in my free time and by consequence haven't been reading much manga lately. Not a big deal, really.
Should I count visual novels on that as well? Probably, right? I'm nearly done with Hashihime of the Old Booktown after about two years reading it on and off. Sadly I've been gradually losing interest in it, but since I'm nearly done anyway I might as well finish it. Don't get me wrong, though, some very interesting things in that game and I've enjoyed my time with it.
"What about writing? You talked so much about it." I've finished one short story, and I'm happy that I did it, but I'm not happy enough with it to release it publicly. It's a project I've grown fond of, and I think I'll let it simmer it a bit more before continuing to tackle it. So since then I haven't written anymore, and I should probably correct that. As mentioned, the biggest issue for me is just starting and I haven't got that hurdle out of the way. Hopefully next time I'll have something published here even, I don't know.
